Assumptions behind these numbers
Shopify Payments and a three-year Plus commitment. Published standard domestic online card rates—not negotiated or blended rates.
Yearly billing uses the discounted annual plan price divided by 12 for the current plan and both alternative plans. Monthly billing uses monthly prices. It is not an annual invoice estimate.
Monthly cost = subscription + online sales × percentage fee + monthly orders × fixed per-order fee. The same sales and orders are used for every plan.
Per-order fees are equal across these plans in each region, so order count changes total costs but cancels out of savings and break-even.
No app savings, app subscription increases, operating savings or conversion uplift assumed. Taxes, refunds, shipping, premium/international cards, FX, POS, apps and implementation costs are excluded.
Plus is treated as a flat subscription. Contract-specific variable platform fees are not modelled and can materially change the result. Break-even assumes the same payment mix as sales rise.
Currency is a location-based suggestion, not an exchange-rate conversion. Choose the region where your store is billed.
Some apps price by Shopify plan, so moving to Plus can increase your app bills too. Those increases aren’t included above. Three Acres can audit your app stack, flag tier-based pricing and identify what we could simplify or replace with custom development.
Ask why
Lower processing fees are one reason to upgrade. What functionality do you actually need—and is there another way to get it? We can often build on your existing Shopify functionality to solve the problem before you commit to Plus. We’ll be clear about what genuinely needs the upgrade.
Plan to get the most out of Plus
If Plus is the right move, make a plan beyond the fee savings: expansion stores, post-purchase upsells and checkout customizations. Three Acres can scope, build and connect the right solutions, then measure whether they’re delivering value.
The right build, before or after Plus.
Stay on your current plan and solve the missing piece, or upgrade with a development plan that makes the most of Plus. We’ll help you work out what to build—and when.
Monthly cost = subscription + online sales × percentage fee + monthly orders × per-order fee. Yearly subscriptions are shown as monthly equivalents, not monthly invoices.
The Plus threshold is the highest fee-only crossover against Basic, Grow and Advanced—not just your current plan. Above it, Plus costs no more than every other plan under these assumptions. Equal per-order fees cancel out. Negotiated rates and variable Plus platform fees can change this result.
What’s included—and what isn’t?
We assume Shopify Payments and standard domestic online cards. Premium/international cards, mixed gateways, refunds, currency conversion, tax, shipping, POS and variable platform fees need a separate review.
Can Plus make sense before fee break-even?
Yes—if a required capability or measurable operating saving justifies the extra expense. Multi-store needs, checkout requirements and integration constraints deserve a business case of their own. Revenue alone is not a reason to upgrade.
